Julia McKenzie is based in London. She trained at Camberwell School of Art and studied Fine Art.
Julia’s work is primarily drawing based layered with paper cuts and collage. She also produces limited edition prints.
Julia’s inspiration comes from being a city dweller, many of her artworks are intrinsically linked to her environment, the marriage between the urban and natural world and how it defines us as inhabitors of this bridged landscape.
The underlying narrative of her work involves her delight at finding very natural things hidden like treasures in an environment that may appear unnatural. Julia states that ‘looking at the natural world around me helps me to find my place within it, I look for the evidence of nature I can hold in my hand from my suburban garden to what I can find on my travels to the sea or the countryside. I look for the overlooked, the fragile and the broken.
